A US airline is introducing a service specifically designed for dogs and their owners.
BARK Air is scheduled to launch its inaugural “dogs-fly-first” flight from New York to Los Angeles on Thursday (May 23). Matt Meeker, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of BARK Air, announced that the airline aims to provide comfortable and stylish transportation for dogs of all sizes and their owners.
“We prioritize the needs of the dogs, aiming to minimize their anxiety and stress,” Meeker stated during a press conference on Tuesday. He emphasized that BARK Air offers a first-class experience for dogs and a business-class experience for their owners.
‘No crates, no stressful lines’
As per BARK Air’s policy, on the day of travel, dogs and their human companions will need to arrive at the airport one hour before the flight. They will undergo a streamlined check-in process and security screening, eliminating the need for crates and minimizing stressful waiting lines.
As per the airline’s website, a proficient BARK Air concierge will warmly greet all canine passengers and assist them in acclimating to their journey. This includes facilitating socialization opportunities at the gate and ensuring that the cabin is tailored to meet the needs of dogs.
Planes will never be booked to full capacity
Gulfstream G5 aircraft will be utilized for these flights, and they will consistently operate below full capacity. This measure is implemented to guarantee ample space for dogs and their owners, allowing them to spread out comfortably throughout the journey.
The website elaborates that the cabin will be equipped with calming amenities, including pheromones, soothing music, warm lavender-scented refreshment towels, and other comforts to help each dog feel at ease. Additionally, a ‘just in case’ bag containing calming treats, leashes, poop bags, and other essentials will be available at the gate under the supervision of our concierge. Once onboard, dogs will be offered a selection of beverages, such as water or bone broth, during ascent and descent to mitigate any potential discomfort caused by changes in cabin pressure.
