The holidays are coming and it can be a fun and exciting time of year.
Though this year our celebration may be a little different. Even if you are only having a small family gathering rather than a big one, things can still get stressful, not only for us but also for our pets.
Our pets are used to a regular schedule throughout the year. They are used to eating at certain times, going for walks around the same time or having playtime with their person.
Because we are busy with holiday prep or activities we may end up changing our routine and end up having to delay feeding time or going for walks later. Don’t let them feel neglected, try to keep your pets routine as regular as possible and spend quality time with them this will help relieve some of the stress.
Holidays are when we spend time with family and friends, people in and out of your house. Though your pet may love being around people, all the commotion may cause them to be stressed or get too excitable. You should have a safe, quiet place in your house for them to getaway from all the hustle and bustle, make sure they have things they will need to keep them happy and comfortable such as toys, food, water, a bed and a litter box for cats.
This time of year our homes are adorned with holiday decorations and our tables are filled treats and foods. Our pets just want to explore and play with all the festive decorations and sample all the yummy food. Not only do we prefer they leave the decorations alone but some can be dangerous to them as well as some foods. You’ll just want to pay close attention to your pets when they are around these things and keep them safe and healthy.
Be careful of seasonal plants, do your research. Plants such as mistletoe, holly, lilies and amaryllis can be poisonous to your pets. Certain plants can also affect different animals and breeds in unique ways. Be sure to research how specific holiday plants may affect your pet before deciding to bring them in or around your home.
