They say cats have nine lives. Well, a stray cat was saved from losing one of them when it fell from the upper deck at the Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, US, and was caught by people watching a college football game below.

Videos of the incident, which have gone viral on social media, showed how the spectators’ attention switched from the field to the stands as the black-and-white cat fought to cling on to the ledge for dear life.

People on the upper deck tried to pull the dangling cat to safety, but to no success. It hung there for a little while with its two front paws, then one paw, and then it fell.

Fortunately for the feline, fans were standing underneath using an American flag as a safety net to catch hold of it. The cat landed right in it, before bouncing off and being scooped up by a person.

He then held the kitty aloft to show that it’s safe and sound, as the people in the stands erupted into cheers, reminiscent of an iconic scene from The Lion King.

According to a USA Today report, stadium security staff collected the cat and took it to safety and away from the excitement. It did not show any signs of injury.

Craig Cromer, a spectator at the game, claims it was his flag that was used to cushion the feline’s fall. He also said that while dangling from the deck, the cat had peed on the onlookers below. No doubt because it was scared.

Manny Diaz, coach of the Miami Hurricanes football team which was playing in the stadium when the show-stopping event happened, jokingly said that he would see about giving the cat a scholarship.
